Blue Heron is registered with Revenue Canada as a charitable organization and has been since April 1, 1990. As a registered charitable organization, Blue Heron is able to receive donations and issue tax-deductible receipts.
 

TYPES OF GIFTS ACCEPTED: As a general guideline, Blue Heron will consider for acceptance the following types of gifts:

  • Cash or equivalent
  • Outright gifts of cash (or cheque)
  • Bequests
  • Life insurance policies
  • Charitable remainder trusts
  • Reinsures charitable gift annuities
  • Publicly traded securities and shares in mutual funds
  • Gifts of residual interest
  • Gifts in Kind

 

Gift Limitations – When conditions placed on a gift offer are deemed to be administratively difficult or not in Blue Heron’s best interest, the Executive Director, in consultation with the Board of Directors may request that the terms of the gift be revised, or recommend that the gift be declined.

The following gift conditions cannot be accepted by Blue Heron:
Conditions which, by explicit designation, require the exclusion of, or discriminate against, a group or class, unless such exclusion or discrimination has the effect of favouring one or more designated groups as provided for in any approved Blue Heron equity plan
Stipulations designating a specific recipient by a donor
Stipulations that require a breach of the ethical position of Blue Heron

The aim of Blue Heron is to inform, serve, guide, or otherwise assist donors who wish to support Blue Heron for its benefit. Never, under any circumstance, is Blue Heron’s policy to pressure or unduly persuade a donor.
